CS: Tell me about your decision to paint the ghost chairs. How did you decide on the designs? What technique did you use?
JB: Since the overall setting had some powerful items we chose to use acrylic side chairs so they would not compete with the space. We wanted a subtle design element to the chairs and make them our own, so we decided to add the hand painted images. The first layers were of a deep purple and then finished off with a layer of metallic silver. This effect allowed the image to pop off the dark backdrop of the table and wall.
In McQueen's collection he used animal accessories on the models (feathers, antlers, etc.). We played off of this use of nature and came up with the tree and owl. The tree was delicate and elegant and the owl added a little drama.
