Look Inside the Most Expensive Condo in San Francisco

San Francisco is in the midst of an unprecedented real estate boom, with many apartments costing more than European castles and Bravo releasing a San Francisco installment of its hit reality show Million Dollar Listing this Summer.

As if we needed more evidence of the market's inflated status, a luxurious 5,400-square-foot condo in the desirable Pacific Heights neighborhood has just sold for $30 million, a staggering $5,555 per square foot and a record price for a San Francisco condo sale.

While described as a "penthouse," the four-bedroom, four-bath, 10th floor space is not actually the top-floor unit in its swanky building; it was once part of a duplex with the smaller 11th floor unit but was split into two condos some years back. This means, as one Curbed commenter not so delicately put it, "30 million, and you still have to listen to people walking like elephants above your heads."

Perhaps most outrageously, however, is the architect's grossly understated description of the sprawling beaux-arts wonder as a "pied-à-terre." According to the architect, the former owner, a Silicon Valley exec, used the space for occasional weekend city visits — but he also notes that the condo would work well for everything from quiet evenings with the kids to black tie galas for hundreds. #mustbenice

We'll have to wait and see what the new owner's intentions are, but with the condo's breathtaking city views, incredible attention to detail (including a custom floral motif seen in the molding throughout), and use of the highest quality materials, we can only hope it gets more than occasional use!
