CasaSugar: What’s the history of your home? What year is it from? How did you decide to decorate and renovate it?

Joanne Palmisano: Our current home is our fourth fixer upper (hopefully our last). We bought a 1950s camp on a beautiful piece of lakefront property. We lived in the rundown cottage for two years before we decided to renovate. We ended up recycling almost the entire house (except the fireplace, chimney, one room, the basement and subfloor). We had the rebuild center come out and take the house apart piece by piece so they could reuse and sell all the salvaged material — wood, appliances, vintage wainscoting, etc. It felt great. Once that was down we designed it to fit the footprint of the subfloor footprint of older cottage. We knew we wanted a home that was open, airy, and bright so we choose to renovate and decorate with that in mind. It has lots of windows (75 to be exact) and natural materials and warm colors. We choose local wood for the floors, wide white trim, and lots of salvage materials to give it character. It really is very welcoming and comfortable. We love it.
