10 Favorite Things: Caitlin Flemming

Mar 17 2014 - 3:05am

It's no wonder readers have flocked to Caitlin Flemming's Sacramento Street blog [1] since its 2009 launch — her preference for crisp classics and earthy layers seeps through everything from the spaces she designs to the clothes she wears. When this style-savvy San Franciscan isn't penning her blog, managing her budding design firm [2], or inspiring her Pinterest followers (all four million plus of them!), she might be crossing off another travel destination from her bucket list. We caught up with Caitlin to find out about her 10 favorite things, beyond Sacramento Street.

Design Destination: Istanbul, Turkey

"My recent trip to Istanbul brought me an overwhelming amount of inspiration. I'm still basking in everything I saw and learned. The history behind the city, the architecture of each mosque, and the textiles and rugs — I left truly in awe of this incredible city. If you want to get inspired, book a ticket to Istanbul."

Art Wall Must: Jennifer Ament Prints

"Jennifer Ament's [5] work is something I've loved for years. In our new apartment, I worked with Jennifer to create a one-of-a-kind art wall using mostly her work. It was an incredible experience working with her to find which pieces spoke to both my husband and I. I have several others that have been added to bookshelves and my office because the black-and-ivory lithographs have that minimalist look that I love."

Up-and-Comer to Watch: Rebecca Atwood

"I met Rebecca Atwood [7] before she launched her first collection — I saw sneak peeks on Instagram and was immediately drawn to her beautiful designs. We worked together to create custom pillows for our new apartment. Since then, she has blown up. You can now find her in Calypso St. Barth and other design stores across the country. Each collection she creates is better than the next."

I Collect: Astier

"My mom has been collecting Astier forever. About five years ago, we started buying each other a piece for Christmas — to this day, we still haven't bought each other the same thing. Each piece has a story about where we bought it or who gave it to us. I love having something so special filling my bookcases."

Every Home Needs: A Touch of Pattern From Madeline Weinrib

"I had the pleasure of meeting Madeline Weinrib [11] last Fall in her beautiful work space and showroom. She taught me about all of the details and love that goes into each design she creates — from the textile design to the color to the women she works with all over the world. It's truly amazing. Now I want to support her business even more. That's why I add a touch of her work to each project I work on."

Can't Travel Without My: Clare Vivier Weekender

"This is my go-to bag for the airplane — it fits my essentials that I need during the flights. It's also the perfect size for any weekend trips, whether you’re going on a road trip or a plane."

Monogrammed Must: L.L.Bean Tote

"What can I say, I don't think I could live without my monogrammed L.L.Bean tote. I use it to schlep everything I need to client presentations. If I'm going to the design center, I bring it to carry all of my fabric samples, and the list goes on and on."

Addiction: Pinterest

"I know I'm not the only one addicted to Pinterest, right? As an early adopter of Pinterest, I've loved finding endless inspiration for both Sacramento Street and client projects. I have to admit, it's a vortex that I have to be careful going into during the day because I can find myself spending hours pinning. It has been a key way for me to communicate with clients — they are able to show me what they love or hate, and from there, I can get a sense of their aesthetic."

Closet Staple: Isabel Marant Booties

"Everyone has a pair of shoes they can't live without — for me, they are my Isabel Marant [16] Dicker boots. I bring them on every trip, both warm and cold locations. I can wear them dressed down with a pair of boyfriend jeans or dressed up with a cute dress. The low heel makes these boots the perfect shoe to walk miles in. I'm now on my second pair and don't know what I'd do without them."

Bathroom Scent: Aesop Geranium Soap

"I'm mildly obsessed with this scent. The soap, lotion — you name it! It's one that I don't see myself getting sick of for a long time."
