We didn’t have a wedding party, but we did want to set aside some seats for those family and friends that are nearest and dearest. We simply tied ribbons in our colors of yellow, white and purple to the backs of reserved chairs. We knew it would be a million degrees, so we turned the programs into fans, which ended up being a bit more time-consuming than we were prepared for. I remember at one point during the ceremony glancing at the audience and they were fanning themselves furiously, which filled my heart with joy that we had gone ahead and spent the time and effort to make them.
The programs were designed by my friend’s mom onto a fan-shaped template. We had them printed at a copy store and we cut them all out ourselves. We ended up using two sheets of paper per fan because it made them sturdier, so we used glue adhesive to attach the front of the program to the back with the fan stick in the middle. (We used actual fan sticks from the craft store because we thought they looked better than tongue depressors, but tongue depressors are definitely more budget-friendly). Then we tied ribbons of either yellow, purple or white around each stick at the base of the fan.
