Roundup: Modern-Look Houseplants

1

There are plenty of reasons to keep houseplants healthy and prolific in your home, including improved air quality. But if you're looking for modern planters to complement your modern home, it's often hard to find a pot that's not terra cotta, stamped, or a little too organic-looking.

Luckily, there are more and more pots on the market now that will fit in with your more streamlined decor. One of my favorite pots out there is also very easy on your pocketbook. The Grobal Self-Watering Flower Pot ($15 and up) is available in a spectrum of colors. Designed by Karim Rashid, it makes it easier for even the blackest-thumbed indoor gardener to keep her plants looking gorgeous.

There are a ton of plants that are architecturally more modern - I have a mother-in-laws-tounge - very sculptural. As far as what you plant them in, a lot of things can be modified to work as planters too. Some plants don't require a ton of drainage - those you could put in anything. If they require good drainage, you can punch a hole in the bottom of a lot of things. You can also, always put a simple planter inside something much prettier, or more your style. If you have a great vase, or a basket that you love, just put the plant in a simple terra cotta or plastic pot and put the pot in the item you love. You just have to make sure you leave enough room for root growth, and don't stuff it into something it doesnt fit into. Just my 2 cents.
