Secrets From a Stylist star Emily Henderson shared one of her recent room makeovers on her eponymous blog. The clients described themselves as "tiki meets vintage Japanese cowboy meets atomic kitsch" and what she turned out is some variation of that: "retro polynesian kitsch," as she calls it. I think there's a major possibility that this mixture of styles could fail miserably; too many styles in one space can become pretty confusing, so I like how Emily pared it back.
I supplemented the two standouts of the space, the Two's Company Hanging Rattan Chair ($406) and the Florence Broadhurst Japanese Bamboo Wallpaper ($450), with a few more Polynesian, retro, and kitschy finds. Some of my favorites are the Ceramic Tiki Mugs ($24) from Urban Outfitters; if you're going to go kitschy and tiki, it should be in small bits, such as on the tabletop. Another item I particularly like is the Anthropologie Delicate Division Vase ($16); it has a very subtle Polynesian look to it, and I love how it pulls the reds and golds from the room.
