Most of us don't spend much time thinking about what goes in our dishwashers. We tend to just load the dishes, squeeze a bit of detergent into its receptacle, and turn it on — maybe pressing heavy for pots and pans, normal for the usual plates and glasses. Since I've learned the hard way what can and cannot go in the dishwasher, I'm hoping to pass a bit of that know-how on to you and save you from tarnished silverware. I'm sure plenty of you know your way around the kitchen just fine, so let's test your knowledge about what can and what can't go in the dishwasher.

Hi EricaJane, that depends. Le Creuset offers a variety of finishes, and while many are dishwasher-safe, some are not, and some are safe but it's recommended not to put them in the dishwasher. You can find a full list of care instructions for specific Le Creuset products here.

Likethedirection, I know - some of them are surprising, right? RoaringSilence, the ones that yellow/ the paint comes off are really over a long time. So if you wind up with, say, a milk glass bowl that's seriously dirty, it's safe to toss it in the dishwasher a few times.
