Do You Have a Fruit Tree at Your Home?

I recently had the opportunity to pick apples from a friend's tree, which was too overloaded with apples for her to take full advantage of the bounty. After a weekend of making applesauce and pies, I'm convinced that I need to add an apple tree to the backyard. Do you have any fruit trees at your home?

We have an apple tree, but I don't really like apples. I'd love to have a lemon tree!

We have 3 apple trees, a cherry tree and one with 'Sanddorn'. Don't know what the english word is and I'm too lazy to look it up ;)

lauren, my walnut tree has yielded at least 20 pounds of walnut this year. Normally I leave everything to nature and wait patiently for the walnuts to fall on their own, which they do around this time of year. Then I pick them off the ground.

I have 2 vineyards, an apple tree, 2 plum trees, 2 pear trees, almond trees, walnut trees, a nectarine tree, a fig tree, several cherry trees, a mulberry tree, various citrus trees, a large garden, etc. I like that we grow a lot of our own food. If you come at the right time you will take some produce home.

We have a few fruit trees: fig, Asian pear, two lemon trees, and an Italian plum tree. My favorite is the fig tree, but we are plagued by squirrels that eat 1/10th of each fruit and then toss them on the ground. It drives me crazy!

I clicked "other," because while we don't have a fruit tree, my grandfather has apple and pecan trees and he is very generous with his harvest. It's like having a tree in our yard, but without having to water them! Last week I made a delicious apple pecan crisp from his tree.

roaringsilence, I would totally do that if that was an option! I have apple (but no apples this year), orange and lemon! I want to get a lime and fig! moonwater, do your harvest your walnut tree?

I didn't expect anyone to click "other". What would that be - "my neighbor has a tree and its branches hang into my yard, so I can pluck their fruit?" hee hee. I wish I had some trees. I don't expect to be staying in this place for long enough to have any, though. I have had terrible luck with growing fruits and vegetables since I moved, half because of the horrible soil and half because insects killed entire plants. With a tree, I wouldn't have to worry about it too much, they'd probably bear some fruit even in a bad year. When I grew up in a house with a fairly small suburban garden, my parents had two cherry trees, an apple tree, a pear tree and a mirabelle tree. It was great!
