In season four of Mad Men, Don Draper's New York City apartment has a kitchen pass through, which is an ideal feature for a man who entertains (and has ladies cook for him!). A kitchen pass through is essentially an opening in the wall at counter height between the kitchen and the living or dining room. From a design standpoint, it opens up closed off spaces and lets light flow between two rooms. But it also makes moving meals from the kitchen to the eating area much easier, and ensures that the chef doesn't feel left out while she's cooking. Conversation can continue between you and your guests while you're preparing dinner, almost giving the feeling of an open plan living space. Do you have one?
