Design by Pilar Proffitt and Robert Bristow of POESIS
CasaSugar: What elements of Weeds inspired you?
Pilar Proffitt: We went back to the show's original beginnings and tapped into the suburban housewife thing where everything seems cookie cutter, but behind closed doors are hidden our inner secrets and nothing is really conventional. This was our "dark side of normal" theme.
CS: How did you translate your design into the interiors?
PP: In our space we have an undercurrent of the subversive with seemingly normal artwork, details, and accessories that touch on the dark side. (Examples are photos of attractive, young "socialites" who on second glance are miserable looking,
sculptural wall boxes labeled with names of different illegal drugs, and beautiful furniture that is wrapped in thread, giving the reader pause before sitting.)
