CasaSugar: What elements of Californication inspired your design?

Ulderico Micara: We created sort of an art installation that represents, more than a physical space, a “Californication state of mind." We tried to described the multisensorial journey into the disarray of a writer plagued by his personal demons.

CS: How did you translate your inspiration into the interiors?

UM: We forced the visitors to travel into an obscure, narrow, sloped, and soft antichamber and explore the solitary void which Hank Moody has spiraled into. We allowed people to experience the troubles of a man crippled by his writer’s block, only capable of conceiving scattered “single-type” thoughts, a man surrounded by ephemeral passions, dominated by his sexual obsession, and haunted by the ghosts of a life that he longs to live but subconsciously pushes away.
