My first encounter with the art of stenciling came in the form of a rose-and-thorn stencil my mom's friend was using to create a border along the top of the wall in her living room. Using a dusty rose-colored paint for the flowers and a pastel green for the thorns, it wasn't exactly a modern interpretation. Luckily, that limited take on stenciling is a remnant of the past. Thanks to stencilers like Ed Roth, this once less-than-cool home decorating element has gained entry into the hippest of homes. Check out the slideshow for some designs that are inspiring me to add new life to my walls.
