Open House: How Do You Handle Extra Guests in Your Home?

For my family's Thanksgiving, we always rent a couple dining tables and a dozen chairs, move our everyday dining table to the garage, and use our formal dining table as a buffet. When the party's over, my family members crash on every spare bed, couch, or inflatable mattress in the house.

What about you? How do you handle having a lot of guests in your home for dinner or for the weekend? What rearrangements do you make? Any tips for the rest of us? Tell me by commenting below!

We brought in an extra table and chairs to seat our 15 guests. We were all crammed in my tiny house, but we had a blast!

of course, our only friends from out of town that stay over (most others are friends that have since moved and stay with their families when they visit) are my college roommate and her family of FIVE! being that she is so easy-going, they pile onto the futon and couch and bring a travel bed for the baby...we have a one-bedroom apartment, so that's really the only option as for big dinners, our dining room table is way too small to fit more than 4-6, so we buffet it up - worked last week on Thanksgiving - i think everyone was so happy not having to host themselves, that they would've eaten off the floor if they had to :)

We rarely if ever have guests, let alone "extra" guests lol. The last time we had a dinner guest was Thanksgiving 2 years ago, that was also the last time we had a guest stay with us for a couple of days. We'll have guests next Summer though for daughters HS graduation. And I really don't want to think about it right now, I'm not the "hostess" type.

We have an adult table and right next to it a young adult table. Next year I am going to mix it up. The college boys of course fall asleep after dinner while the adults clean up and chat. When they wake up we play Catchphrase and have cocktails. They are all close enough to go home to their own beds !! yeah !!

My family is pretty relaxed. On big days like Thanksgiving, everyone would load up their plate and just grab a seat -- some at the dining table, some at the kitchen bar, some on the couch with a tv tray, watching the football games while they eat.
