Oakland's new restaurant Homeroom takes the concept of school lunch to a beautifully elevated level. Serving macaroni and cheese made with artisanal cheeses from local cheesemakers, it also carries treats like homemade Oreos and peanut butter pie, as well as a selection of local craft beers and wine. But above and beyond the admittedly delicious school lunch menu offerings is the restaurant's fantastic look, which was imagined and realized by owners Allison and Erin, in collaboration with Abueg Morris Architects. Allsion and Erin write, "Because we want Homeroom to have our own personal touch (and because we're broke), we made all the tables, hand-painted the chairs, crafted shelves, built the bar, made our sign — we even created our own funky chandeliers." While the restaurant's look may have been borne out of necessity, it's also funky, fun, and downright lovely. Let's go on a quick tour of Homeroom's interiors and see how you can steal some great ideas for decorating your own home(room).
