Nice and New: Ikea's 2009 Catalog Is Online

It's about that time again. Ikea's new 2009 catalog arrived in my mailbox last week and I spent a good 40 minutes gawking at all of the beautifully styled and photographed rooms, and now it's available for you to flip through online.
The big-box retailer may sell mostly flat-pack, assembly-required MDF furniture that's not the sturdiest I've ever owned, and they may charge an arm and a leg for shipping, but I will give it to Ikea for consistently emerging with eye-catching designs and photography styled to the nines. I'm at a point where I'm honestly trying only to bring home timeless, durable furniture that I can pass on to my kids one day, but when it comes to some accents, and textiles especially, Ikea never fails to win me over —
without breaking the bank. If I'd never seen their products in person, they could have fooled me: their new inventory is quite photogenic, appearing luxe, vivid, and perhaps most importantly, inspiring, on all 300-some pages.

i love my ikea ektorp sofa, and it's definitely not rickety! it's also in my budget, whereas as buying 'timeless, durable' (if by that you mean 'expensive') pieces most definitely is not in my budget. i'm very happy with it and think it'll last me quite a while. i think the removable, washable slipcovers are the most versatile, practical design i've seen in a long time.

I love IKEA and it bugs me when people say it's "cheap looking." I have a great office cart from there that they don't make anymore and my mom wants one.

yay! thanks for reminding me to check out the new stuff online. there are two stores near me and i am moving in september, although hopefully i won't need much more than organizational things.

YES! It makes me sad that the closest Ikea is 4 hours away though. Where I used to live there were 2 in 15 mile radius. Hmph!

My mom sold my furniture when I moved out but only because she needed the space and money at the time. However, I am still inheriting some nice dishes when I move into my own place. Casa, it's funny you mentioned IKEA because my mom and I were just talking about them last night!

I agree with pjamgrl, i just moved out of my house and into my apartment for the first time and i did not want my parents bedroom set from 20 years ago, im sorry i will spend some of my savings money on something from IKEA for the next couple of years.. the only pieces of furniture i did take from them was the ethan allen couches, which are only 7 years old.. the only time i think you can pass furniture down to kids is when they go on their own for the first time and have no money so they'll take any hand me downs.
