Modern Australian Home With Astroturf

Instead of moving to a larger home, one family in Melbourne, Australia decided to think outside the box — really outside the box — and build out their city lot. Thanks to the expertise of innovative architect Andrew Maynard, the new compound suits this family of five's need for space, while showcasing an unusual and cool solution to the long, narrow lot where the home is located. That solution? An artificial hill, upon which was built a contemporary structure.

The architect writes,

Rather than repeating past mistakes and extending from the rear in a new configuration, the proposal was to build a new structure on the rear boundary, the southern edge of the block, upon the footprint of what had been, until now, the back yard.
