CS: I love the colors you’ve chosen for the cottage. Can you tell me how you chose your palette?
MC: Thank you! I had such a great time selecting colors for my house — I really use it as my design lab. The first colors I chose were the ones I felt most passionate about – the gold beaded wallpaper and gold bar in the living room and the berry-and-pale pink closet. I clearly wanted to indulge my girlie and glamorous side! I then used my favorite color, blue, in various shades throughout the rest of the space: gray-blue in the kitchen, a true blue in the living room, and Tiffany blue in the bedroom. The last room in the house I tackled was the den, which I painted a great Benjamin Moore hue called Sandlot Gray. During the day it looks gray, in the evening it takes on a lilac cast and can even go a little taupe. Everyone who walks in thinks it’s a different color. I paired it with natural wood, bronze, and gold accents.
