Martyn Lawrence-Bullard Interview

CasaSugar: We recently featured your old partner Trip Haenisch on the site. You were working with Trip when you designed Joe Francis's Mexican mansion. What was that project like to design? Can you tell me a little more about this beautiful dining room, as well as the lights used here?
Martyn Lawrence-Bullard: The Casa Aramara estate that I have worked on for the last five years has been a wonderful job. Joe Francis is a wild client, but he's passionate about design and perfection in his homes. So that being said the process of moving his estate forward and just making it better and better has been very fulfilling, especially as he constantly entertains there. The houses have now become my calling cards!
The large woven ball lights were made custom for the Francis project in Indonesia. They were then colored to match the blues that have been stenciled into the wall niches. The scale of the ceilings demanded something of grand proportions that would create drama, yet remain feeling casual and exotic.
