Love It or Hate It? Tesoro Coral Teapot

I'm speechless when it comes to this Tesoro Coral Teapot ($600) from Bergdorf Goodman. This teapot, which has hand-applied 14-karat gold accents and white-tipped coral covering it, is part of L'Objet, a collection combining "unexpected elements and textures to create luxurious tableware and elegant home decor."

To begin, I would never buy a teapot; I just use regular ole pots to heat up de l'eau. And if I did buy a teapot, I wouldn't spend six hundred smackers on it. But if, for some reason, this Tesoro coral teapot landed in my kitchen cupboard, I still can't imagine serving my tea party attendees jasmine in it. I'm just plain baffled.

Hate it. I think it would be a pain to clean. I'm big into texture and this looks like it would be so awful to touch.

I'd just like to agree with mbrown81 and the rest that was disgusted by the fact they used coral to produce something UGLY... I know lets destroy the world for the sake of talentless design!! And just to be petty... CASASUGAR... go to BRITAIN and see what teapots are for... hehehe!!Just to add my voice to jrebeccat... hehe... sorry :P

Before I read the copy, I thought they were pomegranate seeds. Somehow it's creepier as coral. Also, I'm going to go there and be "one of those people." Tea kettles are for heating water. Tea pots are for serving.

It upsets me, for a few reasons. First of all, $600???? You can get a perfectly serviceable one from Pearl River Mart for less than $10. I can't stand that kind of wasteful spending. And then, even if it wasn't live coral, the idea that it's okay to decorate with coral like that is not okay. The coral reefs are dying all over the world, we should do what we can to lessen the effect.

I love it!!!!!! Also, in most places it's illegal to harvest live coral, and I feel like these pieces are already dead. I doubt they're being produced at a rate that is destroying live coral all over the world - yeesh.

Just adding to say that I agree with you, mbrown81 - even if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy it for that reason... but I still think it's pretty.

Wow, I am surprised by everyone's reactions - I think it is beautiful!! It is so unique and the color is gorgeous. What a pretty and unexpected pop of color (and a contrast of texture) it would provide to a room - more as as a decorative piece than as something to actually use.
