Love It or Hate It? Message Bean

While I'm a big gardening fan, something about printing messages on defenseless seeds strikes me as a bit odd. But maybe the Bloom in a Can Message Bean ($14) is simply a cute way to wish a happy birthday to the gardeners in your life. Thoughts?

Totally cute; cute like an mini-lop rabbit in that sort of Spring/new life sort of way. Besides, how can you hate a plant any way? It is very unlikely that whatever is done to the seed to embed the text harms the long term viability of the adult plant. I've seen seeds with far greater damage done to a cotyledon grow to become wonderful plants. As long as the embryo isn't damaged by the text, I would think this is a great way to wish that green thumb in your life a happy birthday.

my boyfriend gave me one a few years ago. it lasted a long time & started to vine. in fact everytime we opened the sliding glass door, it would try to escape. one day the bf wasn't looking and he closed it in the door! it didn't ever recover :(
