Love It or Hate It? Empty Frames

I think the beautiful styling of these photographs taken by Trine Thorsen makes this use of empty frames as decor work. But, I'm not sure how great they'd look if the mantel weren't arranged just so, and the dining table weren't unusually dressed with vases and a lamp. I think it might look the homeowner hadn't finished a framing project. What do you think?Source

I think it works if the frames are "framing" knickknacks or other objects. But I admit I've never tried it.

I've collected busted wooden frames, some with paint chipping off or sides that need to be nailed together better, and they're haphazardly hanging in my garage, and they actually look kinda neat that way, but mine are more intricately carved large ones with lots of personality, so they make me happy seeing them hanging around among the tires, lumber, spare parts, etc. that collect in our garage as well. The ones pictured above are all the same and yeah, they look OK in the photos, but in a real home, I'd agree that they look like they're unfinished projects, but perhaps they could be better arranged and layered to make a more defined wall-art sculpture if anything.

it looks okay here but in reality, an empty frame is saying you don't have happy memories to put in them....it doesn't seem right

this is just odd.what's the point in an empty frame?!you may as well put up a mirror and let it have a purpose.

I do not like this. Feels forced. Love groupings of framed pictures but these empty frames don't work for me. COCOCOZY

I did this a few years ago. It was OK but it felt a little empty after a while.

Seems pointless to me. I wouldn't put an empty display case/curio cabinet in my house, either.

No no no! A frame's purpose is to 'frame' a photo/poster.

What Modus Vivendi said. I'm a big believer in dual-purposing: even something that's just for decoration needs to serve a secondary purpose, whether that's storage or lending energy. Empty frames just look junky and create a void.

I don't like those frames particularly. We actually have an empty frame hanging up right now - we sometimes have something inside it, but for the moment it's empty. But it's a nice looking frame than that, in my opinion.
