Hiring an interior designer can be intimidating, time-consuming, and expensive. So I was intrigued to hear about LA-based interior designer Nicole Sassaman's new service, Design in a Box. It's basically a design kit packaged in a box that gives you the tools to put together a stylish space, with the guidance of a professional designer.
You can choose from either pre-designed rooms, the Signature Collection ($250), or rooms that are unique to you, Custom Designs ($950-2,500). If you choose the Signature Collection, you'll have a room plan shipped to you right away. If you go the custom route, after answering a few questions, in four to six weeks you'll receive a box that includes a presentation board with personalized concepts for your space, a detailed furniture plan, suggested material sampls, a shopping list, and step-by-step instructions for putting it all in place. Nicole's style is very modern — get a feel for it on her blog Design Life — so of course, that's something to consider before you make your order!
If you have a different aesthetic, designer Jason Martin has a similar service called DIY+, and Vanessa De Vargas also has an e-decorating service.
