The Stencil King's Take on Delftware

Hugo Kaagman's Defltware at Zuiderzee Museum

Hugo Kaagman, a Dutch artist who has been working in spray-paint art since the 1970s, has re-interpreted the traditional blue-and-white Delftware pattern on many surfaces over the years, using spray paint and an updated take on the traditional motifs. Today, while visiting Holland's Zuiderzee Museum, I toured the fishing village on the grounds of the museum. Many of the individual homes in this village have been updated by artists in residence, including Kaagman. In one of the old fisherman's homes, Kaagman has covered the walls with his signature spray-paint designs. I loved the effect it had on the tiny house, which simultaneously disoriented and wowed me. Take a look at how he transformed this home's interior.
