How to Hang a Frameless Mirror

How to Hang a Frameless Mirror — Tips For Lauren Conrad!

Lauren Conrad recently shared this devastating photo on Twitter, writing, "Mid-meeting three mirrors fall off my wall and explode all over my office . . . for no reason at all." What a bummer!

I noticed that two of her mirrors are frameless, which can be trickier to hang than framed ones. Before y'all wind up in the same situation — poor thing! — I thought I'd give you the lowdown on how to hang a frameless mirror. This style is very common for the full-length mirrors many of us keep in our bedrooms and dressing rooms, so I hope these tips will come in handy.

Supplies:

  • A frameless mirror
  • A frameless mirror hanging kit (with mounting brackets, drywall anchor bolts, and screws)
  • A pencil
  • A Phillips-head screwdriver
  • A hammer
  • A measuring tape
  • A long, thin flathead nail

Here are the steps:

  1. Pick up your mirror, and place it against the wall where you're planning on hanging it.
  2. Outline the top, bottom, and side edges of where it will hang using your pencil.
  3. Take down your mirror, and place it somewhere safely in the room.
  4. Using your measure tape as a guide, pencil in two marks about one-third of the way in from the left and right edge marks on both the top and bottom of where the mirror will hang.
  5. Place your mounting bracks over each of those four marks, and just pencil in each of their circular openings as a clear mark of where the screws will go.
  6. Now you'll want to find out if there's a wood stud behind the drywall or if you have just air. Take your nail, and hammer it into the center of the screw hole marks you just made. If you feel resistance, you'll be able to screw directly into the wood. If the nail goes in easily, that means there's empty space behind it, and you'll need to put a drywall anchor in the hole you just made. **If you need a wall anchor, hammer it in flat against the wall.
  7. Screw in the mounting brackets on the bottom edge of the mirror using your Phillips-head.
  8. Slide your mirror into the brackets and line it up where you want it.
  9. Then, finish by screwing in the brackets securely to the top edge of your mirror. Fini!
