CS: Some people have trouble decorating their hallways and foyers, but you’ve created two distinct areas out of it, with seating to boot! Do you have any tips for readers for decorating their hallways?
MB: When my husband and I bought this apartment, the first thing I noted was how big the entrance hallway was. So I was like, "You know what? I’m going to make something out of this." And that’s how the chairs and the console table came along. Then I put up the mirror and finally came the art, because as the good collector (addicted to art) that I am, I bought the art without knowing where was it going to be hanged.
I think that one of the things that people underestimate, even in small spaces, is that everything can be an “excuse” to be decorated. I love hallways with crazy wallpaper patterns because hallways are precisely the places where risks like that can be taken.
