This cool hotel was given a facelift by Lake/Flato Architects three years ago, transforming the horseshoe-shaped hotel from a prior-century highway stop to a cutting-edge, modern-design boutique hotel. The hotel offers a wide array of amenities while maintaining a laid-back, Texas feel. Guests can chill by the pool, which features native plants and cacti landscaping, as well as an arbor of ocotillo, which shades the poolside lounge area. After a chilly dip, kick back in one of the Oaxacan-made patio chairs poolside.
Guest rooms feature original photos and artwork, recessed lighting, cowhide rugs, and custom-made platform beds and writing tables by artisan Jamey Garza, Just as its design reflects its modern sensibility and past-century retro chic, so do the Thunderbird's amenities. While the hotel has wireless high-speed Internet access, as well as a CD and DVD library for your perusal, it also offers guests the use of a vintage typewriter and Stack-o-Matic record player and vinyl library, as well as the use of Polaroid cameras. this place is wonderful and also owned by the same folks who own the san jose in austin. marfa is really a place you should experience and the thunderbird is the place to stay when in marfa
1I looked this up on the Tripadvisor website that I frequently use for travel. The reviews of the hotel and the town were bad!!!
2i think it's a bit kitschy, which if you're not aware of may cause you to not like it. my aunt and uncle and cousins went here for a family trip and had an amazing time!

4I keep meaning to go, too! I live in Texas, but it would still be about an 8-10 hour drive. Our state is slightly huge! I've heard the Gage Hotel in Marathon (about an hour east of Marfa) is one of the best places to stay in the whole country.
5melinda, i totally looked it up on tripadvisor too, horrible reviews! sounds overpriced to me, even though it looks so kitchy cool here... SAD! My BF and I are always looking for random places to go like Marfa, and I got excited for a second... :/
6I've had a lot of friends who've stayed here, and they've given rave reviews. Again, I definitely think that you've got to appreciate retro cool and modern design to get into it though, which isn't everyone's cup of tea.
