If you're interested in trying your hand at reupholstering a chair, a wooden chair, like this dining chair, is an easy way to start. You can see how I fared with my first upholstering project or read steps on trying it yourself.

I've never tried but I'd like to. Seems really intimidating though.
1I reupholstered an ottoman this weekend. I have another on the list but haven't decided on the fabric for it yet.
2It was extremely easy. I even did the pipe around the top edge, which I was a tad apprehensive about. Other than the edges where there was the most fabric, it was simple.
really, courtneyd? i'm like tisgirl - a little intimidated. do you have photos of your ottoman you could share?
3It's not too intimidating and only takes a little more than an hour. I've reupholstered my dining room chairs twice already. It's a lot like wrapping a present.
4I've never tried it either.
5courtneyd, it would be great to see pictures of your ottoman!
6with a staple gun its pretty easy
7Yep! My19th c. Victorian Gentleman's chair. It had the original fabric when I found it, pretty ripped up. It was sitting in the parking lot at the Salvation army. I used a marked down microfiber brown suede and trimmed it with a roll of nail head trim. Not bad for $75. It was like wrapping a package.
8just beautiful, gericault!! great job
9Hmm, I'll try posting this again. Here's a link to the ottoman:

I also added the same fabric to the bottom of the sheers, and I plan on recovering my outdoor couches in it as well.
10nikkeeb, this was fairly simple since it was just a square. It was previously a pleather-covered ottoman from Target, so when I dis-assembled it I measured the fabric and cut mine the same size. The hardest part was getting the cover pulled back over the new foam - the foam measured 18 inches square, and the fabric was around 17 inches. Needless to say, there was a lot of tugging, stuffing, and squishing until I got it all the way on!
