Good, Better, Best: Glass Base Lamps

Glass bases lighten the visual footprint a lamp has on your room, and they reflect light, creating a warm, radiating glow. I've been thinking of picking one up for my acrylic nesting tables, so the lamp shade will appear to float above my hardwood floors. They're also just chic, regardless of what table is topped by them. But, as always, home décor decisions are much mused over by me. So, see the three transparent glass-base lamps that are in the running when you read more.

Good: The World Market Stinson Glass Base Table Lamp ($69.99) is crisp, clean, and modern. It most definitely has the look I'm going for, but I'm not loving its flat base. Although, the open base has the benefit of allowing for decorating with some trinkets inside.

Better: The CB2 Phantom Lamp ($99.95) has a plump bottom, and I'm loving its "top heavy" ratio. Ha! The linen shade comes across as a tad too midcentury for me, although it is available in stark white. It certainly has the cool factor going on, but, ironically, isn't feminine enough.

Best: The faux snakeskin-embossed shade on the Crate & Barrel Jack Table Lamp ($179) is darn sexy. I also love how its ovaline-shaped base is complemented by a tiny glass finial. And, it's called Jack — aka. my pick for the hottest guy on Lost.

Simon Pearce might also be the king of glass-base lamps. But, he has so many designs (running from $230 to $595) to choose from, I couldn't decide. Decisions, decisions.
