Good, Better, Best: Adult Piggy Banks

I was listening to NPR yesterday, and there was a story about how one in four Brits fail to save money for the future. This problem certainly isn't limited to the U.K., and when it comes to putting cash away for a rainy day, every little bit helps.

So here's an idea: Pick up a special adult piggy bank to encourage your own penny pinching. I've found three little pigs that will suit anyone's financial planning.

this is great - i always use an empty pasta sauce jar or similar for my change, but have a clear bucket now with at least $70 in it - every time i want to go out to eat or to a movie and decide against it i put the money in the bucket instead.

I think it is a cute bank. I also a great idea. after you save up enough money you can invest in maybe an ira money market fund etc.

my boyfriend and i went to one of those pottery craft stores where you paint your own pottery and we made the ugliest looking but still cute in its own way Piggy bank. it has glasses and buckteeth and it's colorful

i love piggy banks. i always use one at home, it really adds up after a while. I love the metallic one... and of course who wouldnt want one of platinum or gold..(if i could only afford it)

I just throw my extra change into an antique crock jug but piggies are still a cute way to go.

Yum, it's amazing how quickly the change adds up. My money jar looks like a fairy and is labeled, "Mad Money". We basically just dump our extra change in there. It has been handy for last-minute money needed for the kids such as lunch money, etc.

i threw my change in a jar and i had a good chunk of my down payment for my new car =) im re-using the jar... very happy i started that.

We have a dopey looking cat bank that a friend once gave me (I wouldn't have bought it myself, it's really dopey looking). We put it on the shelf next to the laundry detergent, and everytime we do laundry, we check the pockets and all the change goes in to. After one year has gone by, we use that money to do something fun (that's part of the rules, it can't be used sensibly). Some years we have a big score and a big fun day, other years just a little. Either way our "cat fund day" is always a blast, and I never forget to check pockets anymore (which is a bonus, because for some reason I leave a lot of junk in my pockets...)

Love the first one! I have an elephant bank that I picked up at Old Navy for a couple dollars last year that I dump all my spare quarters in. It's almost full now, and I can't wait to see how much is in there.

I hate to be a party pooper, but wasn't the whole point of the article that it's a terrible idea to save your money in piggy banks? And that the people surveyed didn't know what money markets are? Or how to intelligently invest their money? I know this column is about design, but I would think y'all would be interested in empowering women through every facet of their lives... finances included.

Aw, I like the first one! I've been saving change in an old pasta sauce jar for more than a year now, and I'm obsessed with filling it all the way to the top before I see how much is inside.

I like the Good and Best banks. The middle one is kind of cheesy. I think I'd use this solely for decoration or spare change. I've been meaning to get a ING Direct CD to really save (and make) some money.

My dad has one that separates all your change out by coin. It's loud as hell (and not as cute as these), but each is put into the paper "tubes" that say how much money you have. In no time at all you have $10 in quarters or however much in pennies. . . . It's amazing how much the daily change adds up!

I have a blue clear plastic piggy bank I picked up at a dollar store. It is almost full. I tried to empty my changed into it once a week and add a couple of dollar bills, too.
