Calling all flea market junkies [1] — this post is for you! If you're in need of some before-and-after inspiration, here are five of what we would consider the best furniture transformations. Each creative in their own right — think painted upholstery — the finished pieces are downright impressive. Take a look, and find out how to get the results below.

A flea market favorite, lacquered pieces offer a vintage authenticity that is often hard to find in new pieces. The problem is they are usually scratched and require a little TLC. For about $300, this $60 thrift-store desk [3] got a stunning makeover. In the words of celebrity decorator Emily Henderson [4], "You can always change the finish, but you can't change the shape."

For those of you who fear upholstery or simply want to extend the life of an older fabric, this painted upholstery makeover [6] is for you. A pair of $30 swivel chairs look brand-new with few coats of acrylic paint in a bright coral color.

Is this transformation amazing or what? Two basic floor lamps got a sweet upgrade with some fabric and spray paint. The process [8] isn't as hard as it looks either: it takes about three hours (mostly drying time) and costs under $20 (assuming you want to use a lamp you already own).

It's hard to believe that this chair used to be lime green! After some paint stripping, reupholstery, and contrast piping, this chair [10] underwent a makeover that's one for the books. It looks like a completely new piece and makes for the perfect accent chair.

Although it was in need of some elbow grease, the transformation of this vintage credenza [12] is epic. Covering the bad Formica in concrete and painting the base blue made this piece look completely different. Better yet, it was snatched up at a thrift store for only $39 bucks!
