I was glad to read that I'm not the only one who hates it when guests sleep on pillow shams. Don't people know they are for decoration?

Perhaps it's easier to make the distinction between pillow case and pillow sham (which goes over the pillow case) when dealing with a Euro sham. These square covers, which often come with fancy bedding sets, are designed to fit the large Euro pillows that many people layer behind standard pillows to create added decoration and cushion. Euro shams typically measure 26-by-26-inches square.

Are you a Euro sham fan? Or do you think less is more in the pillow department?

oh, and nope, not a fan... i think that whole look is starting to seemed really dated. but thats just me and i am certainly not an expert on design trends!

I have both regular shams in the guest room and euro shams in the MBR. I usually just turn down the bed for guests, placing the regular shams behind the pillows meant to sleep on.

Less is more. If you don't want people sleeping on them, you should remove them when you show them the bedroom. I hate nothing more than being a guest at someone's house and being shown a guest bedroom with a bed that looks like it belongs in a department store. This usually means the sheets and pillows haven't been washed in months.

i never even knew that such a thing as a euro sham existed until i worked at restoration hardware... now i just think beds look odd without euro shams.
