Definition: Duvet

A duvet is a plush bed cover, often stuffed with down or an equally fluffy synthetic fiber, that is typically paired with a removable, washable duvet cover. Duvets are placed atop bedsheets, like a bedspread or quilt, to provide the decorative finish for a bed.

The benefits of duvets include warmth, versatility, and washability. The cover can easily be removed when it needs laundering or when you get bored and decide to redecorate. The downside, however, is putting the cover back on the duvet after washing, which can often be a very frustrating process.

I don't love putting the cover on the duvet, or getting it to stay in the right place once "stuffed" in the cover However, the dog is cute! So, keep the duvet...I'll take the dog!

I adore my duvet :LOVE: And it's no secret - my friends at work have taken to calling all rainy days "duvet days" because on those days I would daydream about lazing on the couch all snuggled up in my duvet....mmmmmm..... Also this is one of my favourite ads:

Any suggestions for cleaning a duvet? I absolutely loooove mine, but just airing it out just isn't cutting it.

Love my duvet cover! I also use hair elastics to secure my cover to the duvet, just wrap it around a tiny corner section of both the cover and duvet.

Adelka - that's how I do it too! I will NEVER have anything other than a duvet. My husband had never had one until we got together and he swears it is like a sleeping in a warm cloud!

yeah, i have never had a problem getting the comforter into the cover. As a big mover and shaker in my sleep, i just have issues keeping it there!

The easiest way I have found to put a cover back on a duvet is to take the top two corners of the duvet and snake them through to the top corner of the cover.. then take the corners (on the outside) stand on the bed and give them a good shake or two, and everything falls into place. I have had a duvet my whole life and that's how my momma taught me to do it :P

I put my cover on by turning it inside out, grabbing two corners of my comforter through the cover, then shaking the cover right-side out until it covers the comforter. Some bedding brands offer duvet covers with little ribbons on the inside and comforters with sewn-on bands that you can tie the covers to.

The way that I secure my duvet cover is with hair elastics in the color family or identical to the duvet cover. that way, it stays attached to the down comforter inside. I have also toyed with ribbons, the HUGE "baby diaper" safety pins and those ridiculous binder clips. The Cool thing about huge binder clips is that you can actually remove the silver wing parts, the downside is they seem to stretch over time. When I was in college, I bought a 20 pack of giant white binder clips, I couldn't find White ones on OfficeMax but I glanced and they had black ones. The key is to remove the silver looking arms. Anyway! Hope that helps!

I haven't had anything other than a duvet in years - love 'em! As far as putting the cover on, it's currently laying over the duvet because I am really lazy. :)

Ikea Duvets are the best. They're incredibly cheap, and actually stay on the quilt I have. They're still a pain to put back on!

i love my duvet. it is sooo warm and comfy. i almost never want to get out of bed in the morning. my boyfriend and i do laundry together, and so when we wash the sheets and duvet we put the comforter inside together. it took a while but we worked out the best way to do it and can now put the sheets on our king-sized bed back on in 5 minutes!

I just changed my duvet last night. I actually had to crawl inside of the thing to get it just right. It was kind of fun but mostly frustrating. It's still awesome though.

My cats have put little rips in my duvet, and so now I get tiny bits of down feathers floating in the air every time I make my bed. :(

I just bought a duvet cover from Ikea..... It's the greatest thing ever.... But it took me forever to find a down comforter that had the right amount of fullness and fluff... but after weeks of searching... I found it!
