I love the idea of using a chest instead of a simple table in the living room. Not only does it add an unexpected element to the room, but it also provides great, hidden storage for games, blankets, CDs, or DVDs. This particular chest (which I love — is that a checkers board pattern embedded in the top?) is from Lovely_1's new home, which you can tour here.

yes, i have an antique cedar chest. it mixes up the decor which is mostly mid-century modern, and it's great for storing sweaters in the off-season if you don't have a big closet.
1I don't have one, but my mother has a chest from China that her grandfather brought over sometime in the 40s or 50s, that she uses as a coffee table. She also has a kimono that he brought with her.
When she dies, they are mine! All Mine!
2Yes (and no lol). We have a traditional coffee table in our living room, but in our sitting room the coffe table is my Grandmothers cedar chest that was handed down to me.
3no but i want one!!! There was one in the living room when i was growing up so ive imagined a chest as a coffee table for my own place ever since.
