Do You Have Ivy Growing on Your House?

I love the look of ivy climbing on the exterior of a house. But if your walls are weakly mortared, there's potential for the ivy to damage them. Do you have ivy growing on your house?

We have ivy on some of our house, and trying to get it down is a huge pain. While it may look nice, we would prefer to not have all those vies get into every nook or crack.

While having ivy on a house can be beautiful, there's no doubt it can cause damage, even with strong mortar. The fine legs of the vine can get into any crack in the brick, in the seam to the house, a window etc. Even if you decide to pull it down, the legs left of the the brick are incredibly hard to remove short of sand blasting. Yes, I speak from experience! I do miss it as it added charm to the house but in the end I prefer the lower maintenance.
