Second Life is a virtual online user-defined society where users can build houses, businesses, and pretty much anything for their avatars, in addition to buying and selling their creations with real-life currency. The first person person to make 1 million real US $$$ from Second Life was—you guessed it—a real estate developer. What about you?

I consider myself something of an internet addict, but honestly, this just kind of freaks me out for some reason.
Nope. I spend my money on real life.
Huh?
What? never even heard of it before
What is Second Life? My one life is too busy as it is.
I just don't get the Second Life craze. I played it for all of five minutes before getting bored.
huh?
This is only the second time I've heard of this. The first time was on The Office last week.
That game just isn't my thing. I would rather spend my money on real things.
britt2121- ditto!
And on the Office, I though it was something made-up for the show.
I thought it was made up for the show too, sugarbecky!
Never heard of it. Is it like the Sims?
Second Life is escaping from the real world, that's all it is, except that it takes everything to a completely new level. I think it's pretty ridiculous, but some people get extremely hooked on this. They call it a game, but for the people that "play" it, it's as real as real life.
My mom started on this game almost a year ago. A year later, her life has completely changed because of the people she met and the relationships she formed. Whether it's changed for the better, I'm not so sure. Her playing Second Life has had an impact on me, our family, and her "real-life" friends and it hasn't been good. I have to say I really resent Second Life.
Acemonkey - it's a lot like Sims, except the characters around you are real people that you can talk to and "interact" with in real time. Everything is built by the people that play the game. You can pay real money to buy virtual things like land, clothes, even bodies (think cosmetic surgery, almost everyone's avatar looks like a model) . You can make money on the game (real money) if you are creative and can design things people want for their avatars.
aww rivrchild, that's sad. I was totally addicted to Sims for a while, but I kinda hate playing games online with other people. I'm a singular gamer really. I love Final Fantasy, such a nerd!
Frrrrrreeeeaaaakkkkkyyyyy
Wow, I am surprised by the reaction people have to hearing about Second Life! I enjoy playing Second Life, I enjoy meeting new people from all over the world and experiencing all the creativity so many people show off. The thing that makes a lot of people give up is that its hard to find people to hang out with. I hang out at a place known for its friendly atmosphere.
I also have a house inside Second Life. Pictures are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/geekilicious/tags/secondlife/
Shopping for clothes and other fun things is one of the best things to do, as well.
Have no idea what it is but I'll check it out
I keep hearing about this. First on the Office and then today my art professor mentioned it. Im not down with the paying with real money thing
I actually do know what Second Life is, but I hated it.
