My mother and many of her siblings and friends have always collected Herend animal figurines. I never understood the appeal, considering how expensive they are (this little pig goes for $190). But I guess they're trendy. They're so popular, in fact, that the company must crack down on counterfeits and imitations. Now that I'm older, I find myself wanting one, too. Ack! I am becoming my mother! However, they're so beautifully hand-painted (with 24-karat-gold detailing!) that I may not be completely nuts. Am I alone? Are there any other collectors out there?

i'm not a big fan of collections
as a child i recieved lots of precious moments but i dont display them and i havent recieved one in years
1I have a Hummel collection that used to belong to my Grandmother and was passed on to me. I treasure it. I haven't added to it. I like figurines and I have others that are special but I don't collect any specific brand. I have an Armani that my mother in law gave me after the birth of our first child, and I have an Italian marble one that my husband and I got on our trip to Italy last year. I have others from other special trips or occasions as well.
2They're a bit too opulent and delicate for me...
3I don't have a collection, but I have been to the Herend factory in Hungary, and it is AMAZING!! I loved it, it is definitely worth a trip.
4I have a collection of elephant figurines from around the world. I buy one in every country I go to, and my friends and family buy them for me as well.
5I collect Bjorn Wiinblad objects, but not all of them are figurines.
I also collect Danish Chrismas dolls (nisses) but those are only displayed for a month out of the year, so I don't know if that counts.
I guess I'm more Danish than I thought!
6I used to have a Cabbage Patch Kid collection when I was little ... I miss them
I have a Beanie Baby collection of beanies with my family members' birthdays [except my brothers ... because his is a $125 dalmatian ... and I'm not that desperate to have it].
7Oooh itsme3683, love Bjorn Wiinblad!
8I inherited my mother's Herend collection, and I love it! I only add to it when I'm in Hungary (where hers were all purchased). I had no idea they were trendy though. Seems weird. She collected them because her mother collected them, and brought Herend with her when she moved to the States years and years ago (we're Hungarian). I always just thought it was another of my family's "Hungarian things." Glad to know we're so fashionable now. HA!
9I used to collect bells, but that's because my grandma did and she passed hers on to me. Otherwise it's not my thing.
10Hatertot - that's what I love about my Hummel collection. They were all purchased in Germany and brought over when my Grandparents immigrated. That's part of what makes them so special and why I haven't added to the collection.
11My mom collects Willow Tree figurines. I'm a sucker for glass figurines (I have a carousel unicorn and a rose) and porcelain figurines. My porcelain doves are broken and put them together the best I could but it's still missing pieces. I don't have the heart to throw it out because it's beautiful even broken. My favorite thing is my unicorn music statue. It's two unicorns and when you turn the bottom, the whole thing slowly spins and plays a very cute lullaby.
12I'm very anti-clutter and not really into things that just...sit. It was a whole different story when I was younger. My husband and I do have a Willow Tree figurine that someone gave us as a wedding gift, but I doubt we'll be expanding the collection.
13NO. BUT I HAVE MY MOM'S HEREND....AND PEOPLE WHO SEE THE LITTLE CRITTERS GO CRAZY OVER THE CUTENESS....TO ME, THEY WERE MY MOMS AND SO THEY HAVE WONDERFUL MEMORIES.....
14Nope.
However I would love to collect colored glass bottles and vases. I am very picky so it cannot be just any piece and I would prefer to find them at flee markets/vintage-thrift shops; I love the worn, almost treasure like vibe the pieces have when bought at those shops.
15I hate collecting. It's so materialistic and it's usualy just clutter. Junk.
16We collect books.
17When I was younger but not now, makes me think of my Grandmother to have collected trinkets.
18My husband and i collect pottery and books, but no figurines.
19My mom, my sister and I all collect Herends. We always have to pop by Scully & Scully when we're in NY!
20Nope! Just another thing to dust.
21Do I have a beard and nine cats?
No.
