I was first introduced to the work of Sally McCubbin via her stunning Imagery Bowls (below, left), which feature culturally charged images relief-cut into two-toned glass. After spending some time perusing her web site, I'm smitten with nearly every object she's created. As with the mortar and pestle set below, McCubbin puts sleek twists on practical pieces.
Based in Toronto, the artful glass-blower found her calling at age 16, when she stumbled upon a "hot shop" glass studio in Bermuda while on vacation. Since then, she's been trying to strike a balance between socially conscious art and a shoe obsession. As McCubbin says on her web site: "The contradictions defining my being are painfully evident in my choice of livelihood: I am a maker in an overcrowded world of objects."

10This stuff is really cute. I think it would be best in a bachelorette pad, although my husband would allow it in our house I think we'd be better off with something more unisex. I'm loving black and dark blue stemwear and accessories like these.
