Because, while some use words like "accent" or "pattern" without much thought, you know that they can make or break a room. Addressing the issue, here are 13 words that have totally different meanings to us decor-lovers. Although many just don't understand, you and me both know that they are essential to our daily vocabulary (and for good reason!).

Hammered

What it means to everyone else: A word used to describe a state of being after one too many drinks.

What it means to you: A type of metal finish that is often used to accessorize the chicest of homes. Usually the perfect solution for those who fear gaudy metallics.

What it means to everyone else: When something is completely ruined due to a spill or accident.

What it means to you: Often the type of furniture you gravitate to thanks to its depth and richness.

What it means to everyone else: To aggressively cut something.

What it means to everyone else: The action one partakes in when presented with a ball or anything they no longer want in sight.

What it means to you: A must-have accessory [11] that can literally change the look of bedroom or seating area. Aside from keeping you warm, it often brings color and texture to a space.

What it means to everyone else: A trend in hair color where one's roots are dark and the color gradually lightens toward the ends. Beloved by many celebrities [13].

What it means to everyone else: Something used to jot down notes and scribbles.

What it means to you: A cool house (probably your house) where friends always want to hang.

Arrangement

What it means to everyone else: A set plan or event that will take place in the future.

What it means to you: What every home, party, and wedding [22] needs. Although people don't believe you, they are often affordable and easy to throw together [23].

What it means to everyone else: What one needs to survive.

What it means to you: What you need to have a perfectly styled coffee table [26], bookcase, and nightstand. Most people (especially guys) just don't understand.

What it means to everyone else: An action one consistently finds themselves doing.

What it means to you: The best possible way to add personality to a room. Whether it be through pillows, table linens, or even wallpaper, there's no doubt that a room with a variety of prints looks well-styled and interesting.

What it means to everyone else: A surface that is shiny and perfectly clean.
