Living in Katniss Everdeen's and Peeta Mellark's Capitol Quarters

Last night, we were lucky enough to attend a preview screening of The Hunger Games. Being the design enthusiasts that we are, we were of course eager to check out the film's set design. The luxurious, technically advanced quarters that served as Katniss Everdeen's and Peeta Mellark's twelfth floor penthouse were especially interesting to us.

If you've read the book, you might remember these details that writer Suzanne Collins used to describe Katniss's and Peeta's new home in the Capitol:

  • Katniss and Peeta had access to a garden with flower beds and trees filled with hundreds of wind chimes.
  • Her Capitol quarters were larger than her entire house back home.
  • Her bed was dressed with silky sheets.
  • Her quarters were plush but filled with tons of automatic gadgets. The bathroom included a shower and a control panel with hundreds of buttons that regulated water temperature, pressure, massaging sponges, and more. Heaters eliminated the need for towels and a box sending electrical currents through the scalp instantly untangled and dried hair.

While the complex electronics described in the book aren't shown as much in the movie, the lavish decorative details of Katniss's quarters are expertly brought to life. Keep reading to discover the home decor products we found that capture the look of Katniss's Capitol quarters!
