DIY Polka Dot Tea Towel

DIY: Polka Dot Tea Towels

We're happy to present a post from Stylelist Home!

If washing the dishes is kind of a drag, then this Craft of the Day may brighten the experience a bit. (OK so, it won't do the dishes for you or anything, just to get that out of the way. We wish!) But, this confetti dish towel will look festive in your kitchen and is the perfect towel to put out when having company. And if you're feeling daring, then try this technique on a plain bath or beach towel to add some color! Ready to turn an ordinary cloth into a party-ready towel? Keep reading for the how-to.

You'll Need:

  • Flour sack dish towels (like these from Walmart)
  • Craft paint
  • Cardboard
  • Fabric medium (like Liquitex from Blick)
  • Paint-mixing sticks
  • Round foam sponges

Keep reading for the directions for this polka dot tea towel!

    How to Make It:

    1. Add one part fabric medium to two parts craft paint in a bowl and mix together. Do this with all the colors you'd like to use.
    2. Lay the dish towel out flat on a clean surface.
    3. Dip round foam sponges in the sizes of your choice, in the various paint colors and dab them on the dish towel, layering small dots over larger ones to give it the appearance of scattered confetti.
    4. Allow the towels to dry overnight, heat-set them, and then wash before using.
