Two of our favorite Northern California artists, Clare and Kai recently tied the knot (you can tour their charming home here). Clare is familiar with celebrating wedded bliss: she regularly paints custom wedding portraits for her clients. This Custom Wedding Portrait ($450 for each custom painted portrait) from Clare's shop captures a sweet moment between a newly wedded couple.

My dad turned 50 last year, and my mom and I wanted to give my dad something really special. I basically live on deviantArt (which is an artist's site) and I saw that one of my favorite artists was taking animal watercolor portrait commissions and I thought, "Hm, wouldn't it be great if we gave Dad an A4 sized portrait of Zena?" After much discussion with my mom and brother, I commissioned her to do a portrait of Zena, but it was paid by my mom, my brother and I (I did all of the communicating because, hey, I'm the only one that speaks art.) We were totally speechless when we saw the preview because we honestly thought it was the photograph I had sent her for reference. We literally fell off of our chairs. She had gotten everything, from her pose to the teeny tiny excess white hairs and wrinkles. My dad loved it a lot. It even got a custom frame! (The frame, by the way, cost more than the painting....twice as much. Only my dad does this.) The "well-behaved Zena," as we call it, hangs above the living room couch. He actually had to send a picture of that painting to all of his work colleagues.
