Cool Idea: An Easel as TV Stand

Since I don't watch much TV, updating my hefty idiot box to an ultra slim HD flatscreen is not very high on my list of priorities. But if I did own the latest and greatest in television technology, I would love to use an artist's easel as a stand, like this one featured in House Beautiful. Tech gadgets are always difficult to coordinate with décor, but that's especially true when your design scheme is earthy and traditional. The wood construction of the easel makes for a near seamless integration. And better yet, it allows you to change the height and angle of your TV — something that few standard media centers can do. Would you try this in your home?

I love this idea, it looks really cute and if it would work in my living room I would totally do it. I'm with you Casa we haven't upgraded our "idiot box" either ha-ha. We wanna find a great deal first.

Did you see the new Restoration Hardware items? They have an oversized easel for a TV and as soon as I saw it, I thought of that House Beautiful picture.

I think it looks great, but, like some others, I'm worried about the practicality.

I like it because it sort of counters the cold, sterile feel of modern electronics. Nice.

Neat idea but I don't think it's very practical. Not only may if call over or get accidentally knocked, where will I store my PS3, Wii, TiVo, and cable box.

No, as it wouldn't work with my decor. However, in the right space, I think this is a good idea. My only concern is that in earthquake areas the easel may be too precarious. Flat screen TV's are heavily, and during an earthquake, I think the easel set-up will topple over.
