There seem to be two brands of Halloween decorators. Some do the bare minimum, setting a pair of pumpkins on their front stoop and maybe carving a jack-o'-lantern or two. Others pull out all of the stops with cobwebbed windows, spooky light shows, and monsters that make noise on the lawn. These theatric pharmacy-variety decorations unfortunately are not the most tasteful of accessories. But I'm convinced that there is a happy medium; your home can be both festive and sophisticated on Halloween.
