My style is a very layered look. I love to mix modern pieces, traditional pieces, trendy pieces, and pieces with a little bit of history. As much fun as it was, I also had to be thoughtful about where we placed everything, especially working with such a large space. We had to make sure that the items that had a rustic, antique look weren't all in one place, making it look like a Pier 1 catalog. So we learned to spread things with similar design styles in different areas throughout the room.
Speaking of catalogs . . . I was intent on steering clear of the catalog/showroom look — apologies to Katy for my stubbornness! I didn't want to use any furniture sets (like a matching coffee table and side tables) or even a pair of lamps that matched; I wanted it to feel lived-in and collected. I also didn't want to use any reproduction artwork, which is also something you often see in décor catalogs. So Katy and I chose original pieces of artwork, and I tried to get creative with other types of wall art, like those baskets.
All in all, I think we succeeded! I absolutely love how the room turned out, and if I could, I would move into it in an instant. It feels 100 percent like me. I do recall calling the look "crazypants" style, which in some ways is a lot like me, too!

Note: Remember when I said there was something in it for you? Throughout September, Shaw Floors and HGTV Home will be leaving it up to you to vote for your favorite room, and each and every day, Shaw Floors will draw one winner from the voters to win a free room of flooring of your choice. Come September, you can vote every single day of the month — and I'll be happy as a clam, of course, if you vote for my room!
