Casa Quickie: Easy Cleaning For Votive Holders

Do you detest peeling the melted wax off of your votive holders? You do? Well, stop whining, and use my easy trick. Just pour 1/4" of water into the bottom of your votive candle holder. The melted wax from the burned candle won't stick to the glass, and the candle (and the wax) will be easy to pull out and replace.

katejane24, I heard recently that if you trim your wicks before burning, the candles won't produce as much soot. Apparently it's the fault of long wicks.

Another vote for popping the wax out after a votive overnight stay in the freezer!!! (Or a week....it doesn't harm the holders that I have found.)

brookrene, I freeze votives too, it does work well. The wax shrinks and pulls away from the votive. So easy.

Also, if you place the votive holder with the melted candle in the freezer and let it sit (i usually do this overnight), the next day it pops right out.

That's a great idea!! Another idea (the one that I've been using) is to (carefully) clip the little metal disc off the bottom of each votive candle's wick before placing them in a glass holder. Once the candle has melted past the point of no return, stick the glass holder in a microwave for around 25-45 seconds. The outer layer of the melted wax (the part touching the glass) will melt a little bit, and you'll be able to pop the melted candle right out. :)
