Casa Quickie: Buy in Bulk

Hilary Swank was quoted in Woman's World in 2005 saying, "I cut coupons, love specials, and believe in buying toilet paper and toothpaste in bulk. It's just who I am." Swank probably picked up the penny-pinching habit during her meager beginnings living in a trailer park, but she was onto something. Avoiding products that are packed for single use, and buying in bulk instead, is a form of precycling, or preventing waste before it happens. You can do so by storing your bulk products and transferring a smaller portion to reusable containers. Pick up products like tp, dishwashing liquid, and shampoo at health-food stores like Whole Foods and large, discount retailers like CostCo and Sam's Club.
