Casa Quickie: Bathroom Eucalyptus

Apartment Therapy recently shared this photo from a reader who used eucalyptus to create a spa-like showering environment. It's such a simple, satisfying trick. Just hang a few branches of eucalyptus inside your shower curtain, and as soon as the steam from your shower hits the plant, your bathroom will be infused with this plant's cleansing scent. Eucalyptus has a high concentration of menthol, and its scent can aid in congestion and asthma symptoms. Good smelling, and good for you.

it is a good idea, maybe this is stupid question : but would it attract insect? I always afraid those flying insect......

I love gathering sprigs of eucalyptus and placing them around the house. I feel better, I breathe better -- and the scent is not oppressively heavy. Never thought to place some in the bathroom, near the shower. Great tip!

great idea- just make sure you don't get the stuff that's dyed a different color- the dye would definitely bleed all over your shower curtain. i made a wreath with red eucalyptus for my front door and after it rained there was red dye all over the front step!

My parents used to do this with a bunch of it when I was sick and had nasty coughs. It would be relaxing and sooth my chest.

misschester~ if you used the fake stuff from the arts & crafts store it would defeat the purpose of having the smell of eucalyptus in your shower. not sure if you were joking or just did not understand.

You can find eucalyptus at any flower shop; it's often used as filler in bouquets!

I keep several plants in my bathroom for this reason. I have yet to do it, but have always wanted to suspend dowels or lattice or something to the ceiling over my shower for vines to hang from, and then encourage them to grow down the sides of the shower. I want to make it so I can simply lift up and remove the whole grid at once for cleaning, but otherwise it would be like showering in a mini jungle. :D
