I was recently lucky enough to chat with Sex and the City production designer Jeremy Conway. While many of my Sugar friends were wowed by the clothing in the movie, I was blown away by the sets. I was particularly excited about Carrie's apartment makeover.

My eye was definitely attracted to the bright blue shade on the walls of Carrie's apartment. Jeremy told me that he custom mixes all of his colors, but the brilliant, lovely ocean blue on Carrie's walls is very close to Benjamin Moore's Electric Blue. Concerning the dramatic change in Carrie's apartment, which was previously dressed in subdued, natural tones, and flea-market chic, Conway said, "Carrie had really grown up, but she wasn't living that life in her apartment yet." The challenge in the redecorating was designing an apartment that seemed like it could be a little more organized, lived in, and put together. One important change was to fit a dining table into the house, "so it could be a place that she and Big could have dinner together."
Conway said that redecorating the iconic apartment of Carrie Bradshaw definitely made him a bit nervous. "[Writer and director] Michael Patrick King didn't see the apartment until the day before shooting started. He came into the living room and said nothing, and I thought, 'Oh no,' and then he started to tear up, and again, I thought 'Oh no,' and then Michael said that it was fantastic."
I have a feeling that most fans of Carrie's old apartment will be equally — if not more so — thrilled with the updated look. To hear about a surprising source for materials of the set design, read more.
The surprising source? The Rug Company! In particular, my eye was attracted to a gorgeous piece of art in Carrie's redecorated entry. I asked Jeremy if it had been commissioned or painted by a local artist. No — that as well was from The Rug Company! The lovely damask-patterned rug in the picture below? Also from The Rug Company.

I love the blue! My bedroom is almost the same color just a bit more turquoise-y (if i can use that was a real word).
1I loved how they re-did her room in the movie. It was all about changing everything in her life after all that had happened to her. It was definitely much more grown up and it was absolutely gorgeous. I loved her old apartment too, but sometimes change is good. I did wonder tho what was going to happen to her apt. since she and Big did end up getting married in the end...
2I loved the make over. At first I thought she moved into a new place & was confused LOL
3i must say that i was also drooling over her apartment more than the clothes (even if only a wee bit more). i was also surprised by the huge flat screen she had on her wall in the end, and the built in cupboards that surrounded it. did anyone else notice the little round coffee table just in front of the tv? so gorgeous.
i've been tempted to paint my bedroom somewhere between a subdued grey and a blue, with white highlights on my skirting boards, doors and roof - now i am completely 100% swayed to just do it!
4The paint colour is FANTASTIC, and looks great in the movie.
Too bad she had to get such lavish room accessories ($300 pillow?!).
Regardless, it looks fabulous.
I wonder how many girls will be turning blue when they redecorate next!
5Love the new apartment... Anyone know if it's available? Haha
6I didn't love everything they did with her apartment, but the bedroom redo was great. I love that color and the arrangement of frames behind the bed. That rug is also lovely. I missed that in the movie so it's great to have the stills.
7I loved how she redid her place! It was a lot more "grown up" and everything in it--from the paint on the walls to the furniture--was fabulous!!
8I loved the apartment, now I want him to come and do mine!
9The place looks ok and all, but for the way Carrie dresses and her personality it seems a little off, I would have expected something more surprising or eclectic, more her style.
10love the appartment, I wanna copy it for my room
11Can we get a before/after side by side?
12I didnt especially love the new apartment...
13The color was a little in your face and on every wall.. the desk area was cool for sure but that cork board at the front by the door was lame.
Loves It!
14I love those little tables! And I'm contemplating going to see this a second time, so I can focus on the visuals, and not just the plot line.
15I agree with gabiushka. Though the room was a GORGEOUS design and was totally fabulous, I would have like to see a few more vintage pieces. Maybe a Saarinen coffee table?

I loved the LOVE wall hanging from The Rug Co and never would have thought to look there. Thanks for the article!
Cant wait to see more stills from the movie!
16oh, you have SO just made my day! i've been looking *everywhere* for shots of that fab re-do on carrie's apartment! all i could come up with was the name of the paint color and the sourcing for the paul smith needlepoint hanging. fantastic!
17I am IN LOVE with that white/purple rug!!! It's such a gorgeous contrast from the blue walls.
I must know where to get one!!!
18i loved the old look of carrie's apartment but felt the re-styling was appropriate and just as lovely. i especially loved all her new mirrored furniture and the "love" poster near the front door. can't wait for more details about the re-do.
19I loved her new apartment, and I'll admit I was a little obsessed with the old apartment, but I fell in love w/the new right away! Everything looked so gorgeous and fresh & grown up! I am very jealous...wish I could afford a makeover to my own apartment!
20I loved seeing her apt redo in the movie, although some of it was a little too "cold" for me vs grown up.
21carries room definitely inspired me. I walked out of the movie talking about her new apartment and the color and I have been waiting for the still shots of carries room since. I also loved the mirrored furniture so last night I spent hours bookmarking mirrored funriture.
22Loved the look! more mature and pulled together but still fun and bold. But did anyone notice Miranda's place? Other than the 80's mirrored wall in the entry it looked great. Can we get more details on that one too!?
23I agree, aimeeb. The blue was so amazing, but in general, the place was a little too cold and modern. All those sharp-lines should have been tempered with one or two older things, like her old coffee table or Aidan chair. And, um, did she do this on writing just three books? Must have sold verrry well.
24the blue color is beautiful
25Thank you so much for this info! I fell in love with many pieces of the set design and immediately after seeing the movie wondered where I could find the source info. I should have known you'd be the one for the "scoop" and can't thank you enough! We ended up at Lowe's after the movie for some other things and I found myself scouring the paint chips for just the right shade of blue like Carrie's new bedroom. Of course I couldn't find it but now, thanks to you, I can find a very similar shade!
I also fell for the rug in Carrie's old apartment (Lily was rolling around on it while Carrie was doing her "fashion show" of old dresses) and now that I know The Rug Company was used for other pieces, I'm off to check their site to see if I can find it or something similar.
Thank you...thank you!
26I love the way her apartment looks...that blue shade on the walls is fabulous.
27smiley face that was not nice
28i hadn't seen it yet.
sigh..my fault for looking at the comments huh?
29but it was a tad unexpected since this had to do with carrie's bedroom...
i loved it.... so nice...
30loved the apt makeover but I agree with briandiesel the corkboard by her door with the word LOVE looked to much like it belonged in a teenagers room. >.<</p> 31
I like the bedroom and the area with the table where the girls had cake, but didn't like the tv modern storage cubicles thing. it reminded me of Samantha's old apartment in a way, Carrie was not a 'modern' person, there needed to be some warm/vintage pieces mixed in I thought.
32i haven't seen the movie yet but i love the above pics of Carrie's apartment! it looks like she has a fair bit of space, which wasn't always evident on the show. i love the rug under her bed!
33i loved her new apt, but these photos don't show everything...she had a chaise lounge that i absolutely LOVED. also, did anyone else notice that she watched the movie from louise on an old tube tv, not on the flat screen?
34I was definitely not dissapointed by carries room makeover! I liked the use of the lamps and that mirrored vanity table! I also think those curtains are gorgeous! thanks for sharing!
35I loved her room makeover too - wouldn't have thought that such a bold colour choice on all the walls would work, but it did. and i love the pics behind the behind.
36I loved the mirrored furniture in her room. I spent all night searching and found a website that sells a lot of great mirrored furniture pieces. It's http://www.glamfurniture.com I think they also sell on ebay.
37it was love at first sight--between that wall color and my eyes.
i've been putting off painting my room for a while and it was definitely so i could be inspired by carrie's new apartment. i'm doing my room this color tomorrow!
38Just wondering if anybody knows the style of arm-chair that was upholstered in that gorgeous floral fabric to match the sofa ... also where is the fabric from ... dying to know

40Does anyone know what the Gertrude Stein quote is on the living room wall?
41Anyone know where her fabulous flowing cream curtains are from? I am assuming they are custom made so in that case what kind of fabric and from where??
42I loved the look, especially the bedroom. Does anyone know where I can get similar bedding?
43What about the wall unit in her apartment? The one that has all the new storage that Jennifer Hudson's character sets up for Carrie. I am really looking for something like that in my room
44What brand/color is the blue paint in Carrie's apartment? Anyone know?
Thanks!!
