Before and After: A Goodwill Chair

Su Casa member Leahlarocco spotted this grungy old chair at Goodwill on sale for $7. There was nothing pretty about the upholstery or even the finish (it's basically an office chair), but she saw potential in it. She decided to paint the frame with Ralph Lauren silver metallic paint, and reupholster it with a $3 Waverly fabric and some charming blue trim. The finished product is a far cry from her Goodwill find, feminine and full of personality. Want to see it? Then read more.

Holy cow, I was doing a search on casa today and just saw this. Thank you everyone for your comments!! I tore off all the original fabric and removed the old staples, total nightmare. It was also tricky with the back being curved because I had to leave extra fabric hanging in the middle so it would lay flat against the back of the chair. It took forever, but it was a fun project and completely worth the end result. I say, if it's a cheap find, go for it! If it turns out awful, it's not like you'll be out a ton of money :)

The print itself may not be everyone's taste but it's a fantastic job nonetheless! ... I am so scared of re-upholstering. =(

Though the original did give off an office chair feel, the after is a little too... grandma for me. Maybe it's because I grew up with sheets as slipcovers in this same pattern at my g-mas. I probably would have gone wild with it for a $7 chair!
